First exclusive photo of the Elder Engineer from the extended version of the opening scene. Hope it ends up on the Blu-ray…
It will be interesting to see more what the engineers’ society is like. But I’m a bit disappointed that for such an advanced race they still wear cloth robes. I would have thought that the writers’ imagination could have come up with something more clever
Yeah, the alien’s crab walk is entirely laughable, but the article makes it sound like the scene was almost included in the film. I think in reality everyone on set knew right away that it wouldn’t make it in.

Alien does the zoidberg
They experimented with having the alien walk around like a crab. Thank goodness they cut that out

“Alien” Continuity Polaroids
Brett’s cocoon, not seen in the final cut of Alien. The writers’ original idea was that cocooned victims metamorphosized into new alien eggs. A horrifying experience, I’m sure.
You can also clearly see the eggs’ original “vagina-like” opening, before studio execs ordered Giger to change it to an X-shape.
In a deleted scene not included in the Director’s Cut, Ripley and Newt encounter Burke in a cocoon. Ripley gives him a grenade to end his own life, but he is unable to bring himself to do it. He is therefore killed when an alien bursts through his ribcage. (via imdb)

“Alien” Continuity Polaroids - Dallas’ cocoon
Initial concepts for Alien stated that the alien eggs metamorphosized out of cocooned victims, the early form of which is visible in Dallas’ cocoon above. This shot was cut from the theatrical release, freeing James Cameron to instead theorize that the eggs come from an alien queen for Aliens.
Personally, I prefer the alien queen way, better.
